Information about Variety Christmas Club
Variety Christmas Savings Club’s founders Austin Polding and his wife Barbara used to own and run a furniture store in the small market town of Newton-Le-Willows. As well as traditional furniture and carpets, the store also used to sell home wares and soft furnishings. They also used to arrange ‘house-parties’ in the local community to show the goods they had available, and would arrange for the more expensive items to be repaid with small weekly payments that their customers could more easily afford. They also used to run a savings scheme where customers could put money away week by week until they had enough money saved to buy the goods they wanted.
This idea of a savings scheme soon developed as customers started saving with them for items they would need just at Christmas, like food and drink hampers, children’s toys and bikes, and Christmas lights and decorations.
From these humble beginnings in 1979 when they used to help the residents of the local community to save for the festive period, Variety Christmas Savings Club was formed and soon flourished and developed to help over a million people all across the UK to save for Christmas.
From helping people to save for items like new bedding and curtains, Variety Christmas Savings Club now deal with some of the country’s biggest and well known retailers, such as Amazon, Primark, Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, Boots and so on.
Austin and Barbara have been retired for many years but still take pride in knowing that families all over the country enjoy magical Christmases by saving with Variety Christmas Savings Club.
